Batik Tulis Works from Mothers of Pulogebang Flats

KBRP is a batik community whose members are all residents of Pulogebang Flats

The mothers' efforts from Pulogebang Flats, Cakung, East Jakarta in preserving hand-drawn batik tulis deserve a thumbs up.

Through its creative hands, the mothers incorporated in the Pulogebang Flats Batik Community (KBRP) have proven to be able to improve the economy of the flat occupants with batik works.

KBRP Chairwoman Adelina (46) said the community has been established since four years ago by occupying a simple place in Blok H, RT 13/11, Pulogebang Flats. Together with 12 members, this community has received various types of batik tulis motifs from the wider community.

"KBRP is a batik community whose members are all residents of Pulogebang Flats. We focus on written batik," she expressed, Tuesday (2/18).

In addition to improve the flat occupants' economy, it also has a strong determination to preserve batik in the midst of the times.

"Batik is a work of Indonesian creation that must be preserved so it doesn't become extinct," he said.

KBRP Vice Chairwoman Ayu (37) expressed, initially, the community members are taught how to make patterns and make batik colors using canting. Now they have produced batik with the picture of Monas, bajaj to Jakarta City logo as long as 2 meters with 1.5 meters width

"The process takes approximately one week," she told.

Currently its members can earn a profit of up to Rp 4 million if many get orders. Most of the batik ordered is from Jakarta Creative Hub.

"Every day we produce batik in the workshop. In the future, we will continue to add members for getting extra profit," she uttered.

As for the information, batik tulis is drawn by hand using a canting, a special copper-bowled implement, which results in a more "organic" appearance to the fabric's motifs.
